GIC’s Return Delegation to Havana

We invite GIC Members to join us on our return visit to Cuba! We are delighted to be working with Cuba Educational Travel (CET), a leader in business and policy travel to Cuba, to assist in facilitating our return to Havana this November! Join us November 17-21, 2019 to experience Cuba’s rapidly changing society and gain a deeper understanding of the island, while ensuring full compliance with all U.S. regulations. Our itinerary will be offering a dual-track agenda which includes workshops with the Central Bank of Cuba as well as health-themed workshops taking place with the Ministry of Health, Cuban General Hospital and Latin American Medical School. Please read the comprehensive itinerary starting with our arrival into Havana on November 17 and the following four days which are filled with a robust combination of business and cultural programming.

This delegation is open only to GIC Members. Click here to become a member.

Prior to our delegation to Havana, on November 15, 2019, GIC will be holding a public conference, An Outlook on Cuba, with University of South Florida in Sarasota covering topics such as health, energy, legal issues, the economy and central bank applications with Cuba.

Updated Cuba Travel Rules
On June 4 the Trump Administration announced updated Cuba Travel regulations, forbidding travel to Cuba by sea, prohibiting private flights and eliminating the people-to-people travel category. The GIC workshop in Havana is not affected by these policy changes. The GIC delegation will travel to Cuba under the category of Professional Research and Professional Meetings, making the trip legal and fully compliant with US restrictions on travel to Cuba.

The package cost is $4,630 per person (double occupancy) and $5,330 per person (single occupancy).
This includes:

  • 5-nights’ accommodations at the Hotel Saratoga
  • Daily breakfast
  • Meals (as specified on the itinerary)
  • Professional, bilingual guide for listed activities
  • Local ground transportation for listed activities
  • Pre-trip departure information
  • Compliance with U.S. Treasury Department regulations
  • Admission to all museums and public buildings listed in itinerary
  • Cuban Visa Application and processing
  • Coordination of all listed activities
  • Gratuity at restaurants for included meals

The prices above do not include airfare or gratuity for our guide/driver.

Cancellations made on or after September 14th are not eligible for a refund.

If U.S. policy is altered to make it so that the trip is not compliant with U.S. law regarding travel to Cuba, a full refund will be granted. This will ONLY be the case if there is no legal avenue for travel to Cuba that would allow for the trip to move forward.

Optional Excursion to Playa Larga

Friday – Monday, November 22-25, 2019

We are excited to announce that in addition to the Havana program, we will be offering an optional excursion to Ciénaga de Zapata, south of the Matanzas province, designated as a conservation area and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It is famous for the Zapata Swamp, home to hundreds of endemic species of animals and plants, and the Bay of Pigs, the site of the U.S.-coordinated invasion in 1961. The itinerary will start on Friday, November 22 and include a roundtable discussion with veterans of the Bay of Pigs invasion, a museum visit, and optional fly-fishing or day trips to Cienfuegos and/or Trinidad. A full itinerary can be found here. Given that Playa Larga is a remote location, delegates can choose accommodations at either the Hotel Playa Larga or a private bed & breakfast. Click here for further details regarding lodging. Both itineraries are priced separately with one rate for Havana and a separate rate for Playa Larga. If a member would like to just participate in Playa Larga, he/she would still make the $1000 deposit and then make flight arrangements to arrive into Havana Nov 22 and CET will provide a transfer to meet the group in Playa Larga. Please note that the $100 visa fee will be added and CET will process that separately from the others since the visa fee is included in the Havana-only price.

The package cost for the Hotel Playa Larga is $2,350 per person (double occupancy) and $2,650 per person (single occupancy). The package cost for a private bed & breakfast is $2,100 per person (double occupancy) and $2,300 per person (single occupancy).

This includes:

  • 3 nights’ accommodations in Playa Larga (price depending on choice of Hotel or Bed and Breakfast)
  • Daily breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Professional, bilingual guide for listed activities
  • Transportation between Havana and Playa Larga
  • Local ground transportation for listed activities
  • Pre-trip departure information
  • Compliance with U.S. Treasury Department regulations
  • Admission to all museums and public buildings listed in itinerary
  • Coordination of all listed activities
  • Gratuity at restaurants for included meals
