Tiago Tavares

Professor of Economics, Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México

Tiago Tavares is is a professor of economics at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and currently also affiliated with the Centro de Investigación Económica in Mexico. He graduated from the University of Rochester in 2015 with a dissertation topic related with sovereign debt default. His main research interests focus on international macroeconomics, financial crises, and sovereign default and some of his recent work include the study of the accumulation of external debt and foreign reserves on economies subject to sovereign default risk, labor market dynamics of southern European countries affected by the 2010 debt crisis, or firm-level investment dynamics of Greek firms under a credit crunch environment. Before pursuing his Ph.D., he worked as a junior economist at the central bank of Portugal.
