Steven Malin, Ph.D.

Director, Allianz Global Investors

Dr. Malin is a director with Allianz Global Investors, which he joined in 2013. As a strategist for the US Capital Markets Research & Strategy team, he is responsible for making weekly US and global asset allocation recommendations. His responsibilities also include analyzing global economic, financial, political and regulatory developments for publication and to brief institutional, retail and retirement clients.  His quarterly white paper series, Under the Macroscope, has a global following among business, financial and government leaders.  Dr. Malin has 26 years of financial-markets, investment-industry and central banking experience.

Before joining the firm, he was director of research with Wealthstream Advisors, a private wealth management firm, and advisor to Aronson Johnson and Ortiz, a quant-oriented institutional equities manager. Earlier, Steve was senior portfolio manager with AllianceBernstein, serving institutional, sub-advisory, Taft-Hartley and private clients throughout North America.

Dr. Malin held numerous positions at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York over 16 years, reporting directly to the Bank’s presidents while serving as vice president in the communications group, corporate secretary and senior economist. He was previously the senior economist at The Conference Board, where he specialized in monetary and fiscal policy analysis and both founded and directed the regional economics center.

During much of his career, Dr. Malin taught graduate and under-graduate macroeconomics and risk-management courses as an adjunct full-professor at Barnard College-Columbia University and six colleges in the City University of New York. He has a Ph.D. in economics from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
