Jan Bergeson

CRA Director, Ally Bank

Jan Bergeson is a seasoned legal and banking professional with more than 27 years of experience in advising many types of financial institutions, counseling senior management on complex legal and regulatory issues and presenting creative solutions to optimize business goals and minimize legal risk. Ms. Bergeson’s extensive involvement in the Utah Industrial Bank industry started in 1985 and has included the chartering and insuring of numerous Utah Industrial Banks, advising on affiliate and holding company matters and other regulatory compliance issues. Ms. Bergeson received her J.D. and B.A. from Brigham Young University, magna cum laude.

During her legal career, Ms. Bergeson helped charter and obtain FDIC insurance for UBS Bank USA, which she subsequently joined as the Bank’s first CRA Officer (from September 2003 – January 2014). She lead the strategic planning process for building the UBS Bank USA’s CRA Program from scratch, which culminated in FDIC written approval of the Bank’s CRA Strategic Plans and the receipt of “Outstanding” CRA ratings on every CRA examination (2005, 2008, 2011). Ms. Bergeson recently joined Ally Bank as its CRA director, with primary responsibility for managing the Bank’s $1.4+ billion CRA Portfolio. Ms. Bergeson’s primary focus is on managing the significant CRA-related regulatory and reputation risk while also producing positive financial returns and demonstrating significant social impact.

At the FDIC’s invitation, Ms. Bergeson served on the FDIC’s national Minority, Community Development, and Non-Branch Banking Task Force. Ms. Bergeson has also been invited by various banking regulatory agencies to speak at industry conferences and roundtables over the past several years. Ms. Bergeson currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Utah Community Reinvestment Corporation, Junior Achievement of Utah and the Utah Shakespeare Festival, and previously served on the Board of Directors of the Utah Bankers Association. Ms. Bergeson is a member of the American Bar Association’s Consumer Financial Services Committee.
