Pablo Hernández de Cos

Pablo Hernández de Cos is Governor of the Banco de España, member of the Governing and General Council of the European Central Bank and member of the General Board of the ESRB (European Systemic Risk Board), of the Financial Stability Board, of the BIS Group of Governors and Heads of Supervision, and of the Center for Latin American Studies (CEMLA). He is also President of the Board of Trustees of Centro de Estudios Monetarios y Financieros (CEMFI). Since 2016 he has been a member of the Board of the International Center for Monetary and Banking Studies.

From 2015 to 2018 he was Director General for Economics, Statistics and Research, member of the Executive Commission of the Banco de España and Alternate to the Governor on the Governing Council of the European Central Bank. Between 2017 and 2018 he was a member of the Economic and Financial Committee of the European Union.

Prior to that he headed the Economic Policy Analysis Division at the Banco de España and chaired the European Central Bank’s Public Finances Working Group. In July 2013 he was appointed member of the Experts’ Committee for the Reform of the Spanish Tax System. From 2004 to 2007 he worked as an adviser to the European Central Bank’s Executive Board and previously as an Economist in DG Economics, Statistics and Research of the Banco de España.

He holds a PhD in Economics from the Complutense University of Madrid, a degree in Economics and Business Studies from CUNEF and a degree in Law from UNED.
