Event Detail

39th Annual Monetary & Trade Conference: US Stimulus, Interest Rates and the Dollar

GIC’s Annual Monetary & Trade Conference returns virtually in 2021 for its 39th year. Join us on May 13 as we explore US stimulus, interest rates and the dollar through two sessions and a keynote address from Federal Reserve Board Governor, Christopher Waller, Ph.D.

The United States, as other countries, responded to the COVID-19 epidemic with a number of fiscal and monetary measures that have created direct and indirect economic effects. Measures will undoubtedly have short and long-term impacts on the US macroeconomy, especially on growth, inflation, interest rates, and the dollar. This conference will aim to contribute to the ongoing debate of the consequences of the US stimulus and shed some light on possible outcomes based on historical experiences, theory and current practices.

Conference co-chairs:

  • Michael G. Papaioannou, Ph.D., Expert Advisor, International Monetary Fund
  • Kathleen Stephansen, GIC Chair, Senior Economist for Haver Analytics and Trustee of EQAT Trust Funds
  • George Tsetsekos, Ph.D., GIC Secretary, Francis Professor of Finance and Dean Emeritus Drexel’s LeBow College of Business
