Colin Chapman, Vice President, Asia Pacific, Strategic Forecasting Inc.
“Lost Opportunities in Australian Agriculture”
Under recent government’s, one of the world’s biggest granaries and food producers has failed to seize the initiative and increase its food supply
to the growing Asian markets. It is not enough to blame the failure of the Doha round of trade talks and persistent drought. Had the government
addressed the food issue with the zeal shown in expanding the resources sector and the economic downturn, a transformation might have been
possible. But there are few voters in the sparsely populated north of the country.
Colin Chapman is vice-president, Asia Pacific, of the Strategic Forecasting Group. Previously he was chief executive of Financial Times
Television, and economics correspondent of BBC Television News. He has also been an executive producer with the Australian Broadcasting
Corporation, held posts with the Washington Post, the Sunday Times, London, The Observer, and The Australian.
